Since 2002 on board training driving school, and their experienced driving instructors, have been providing young driver and pre-17 driving experiences and under-age driving lessons. We have exclusive access to an off-road training complex which affords us the opportunity to give fully structured driving lessons to younger drivers. This is situated in the grounds of Hamilton Park Racecourse, Bothwell Road, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, near Glasgow and there is a large area available to us within the grounds. We also have access to a large roads network within the grounds of Ingliston Showground in Edinburgh, near West Lothian and Midlothian, where we can get the young drivers once competent, to experience higher speeds similar to on-road driving.
We can cover most of the DSA driving lessons syllabus including: clutch control, reversing, gear changing, junctions, the emergency stop and manoeuvres. Learning to drive in a controlled environment with on board training enables students to both have fun and gain valuable experience in vehicle handling skills and it has been proven to help confidence when moving on to driving on public roads.
Not only do we appreciate, that generally, the younger a person starts to drive, the easier and quicker they learn we have also found our young driver courses can shorten the time it takes to learn to drive on the road at 17! European Road Safety research has also found that it is not the age that is important for young driver road safety but more so the number of hours that young drivers have over an extended period of time before sitting their driving test. We believe that the younger a person starts to drive and when the driving is spread gradually over a few years the young driver becomes more confident in the control of the car and is more aware of not only their but also the cars limitations.
A large part of this learning is promoting positive beliefs & attitudes to driving, developing a sound understanding of the vehicle and driver's limitations and instilling responsibility and maturity behind the wheel of the car while retaining a fun and enjoyable learning environment!
Learning with on board training enables students to gain valuable experience in vehicle handling skills and has been proven on numerous occasions to help confidence when moving on to driving on public roads. More importantly we guarantee our "off-roaders" will be taught to the same high standards as our on-road learners.
An assessment sheet is filled in for every lesson a student has, so that there is an accurate record of progress for you - and us - to look back on.
Our pre-17 under-age drivers are taught by the same instructors who do our on road lessons and we expect the same high standards. We also complete written records of their progress and the young drivers are able to continue with us for ordinary lessons safe in the knowledge that their instructors know what they have already covered and that they don’t need to start them from the beginning again or confine them to industrial estates or quieter roads for hours on end. This makes it easier for the young drivers when they turn 17 and continue with our driving lessons on road. A provisional licence is NOT required for our underage driving lessons.
Both driving venues give excellent teenage driving experiences. Lessons are by appointment only and must be paid at the time of booking by debit/credit card. Hamilton costs £25 per hour and Ingliston costs £30 per hour.
NOTE TO PARENTS:- we are fully insured with a specialist insurance company to give under-age driver training to your sons and daughters. A trained instructor will be beside them at all times and the cars used are the same ones used for on-road tuition. Many of our students have found a huge advantage in our off-road training prior to driving on public roads and feedback from our instructors says the same!
